Vacuuming
Frequent vacuuming is the key to maintaining carpet appearance as well as a healthy environment.  This is especially important in high traffic areas because it prevents soil from working itself down into the carpet fibers causing irreversible damage.   Soil deposits from regular foot traffic acts like sandpaper on carpet fibers and, if not extracted regularly, may result in premature wear and ugly traffic pattern disfiguration.    It is also important to make sure your vacuum is equipped with HEPA filtration and that it is well maintained.  This includes changing filters and making sure vacuum hoses are free of blockages to maintain suction at its highest capacity.

Door Mats
Entry mats serve as the first line of defense against tracked in soil for your home. Dry soil abrasion is one of the main reasons traffic patterns form in carpet.  By reducing the amount of soil tracked in from the outside, the carpet life expectancy and appearance greatly improves.  Make sure each entrance to your home has one.

Spot Cleaning

Professional Carpet Cleaning
The Carpet & Rug Institute and major carpet manufacturers recommend that you have your carpet professionally cleaned by an IICRC Certified Cleaner at least every 12-18 months…and more frequently for households with pets, kids or active lifestyles.  The preferred method of cleaning is Hot Water Extraction (many manufacturers actually require Hot Water Extraction to uphold your warranty) also known as “Steam Cleaning.”
